No replacement for displacement!

I have a huge chestnut oak laying in my yard the had to be felled due to rot at the roots. 30” at the base. I’ve been cutting it up this last month with my 500i and a 28” bar. I got down the late production 066 I have and took it for a spin this weekend and was very surprised by how well it performed. I took the bar and chain off the 500i and put it on the 066. The 066 was noticeably stronger and faster than the 500i. And because it was heavier I didn’t have to work as hard holding on. Very pleasant surprise.

I've reached the age and decreptitude where I usually pick the lightest saw that will do the job.

But sometimes, I face a tree that requires that I sigh heavily, drag out the 660 and fire it up. No matter how long it sits, it fires right up and I cut what I need to. And I'm always smiling when I return it to the shelf.

It’s on the shelf. I’m saving it. I really wanted to run the Stihl. It’s been several years since I have run it and I wanted to run it next to the 500i for a comparison.

At 66 I begrudgingly pull out the 088 with 42" bar about once twice a year for something exceptionally large and like you happily put it back on the shelf, even my 592XP is getting used less and less and I am looking forward to the 500i getting back from port work if everything works the way I am hoping the 500i may well replace my 572s as well as the 592s.

at 74 my go to units are still the 64xx and 79xx Domars, when the big nasties show up then it is my 084 with either a 42" or 60" bar. ( and yep that is a heavy assembly, but all you do set it up there and pull the trigger)

I seldom bother with the 088 unless it is over 4 foot on the stump, for the most part 24" usually gets most things done.

I agree. I like ported saws not so much for the speed anymore but so I can cut with a longer bar on a smaller lighter saw.
