The 394 has more grunt and the 395 has more RPMs.

I've run them side by side and (to me) the 394 is more impressive.

plastic intake block - rubber intake boot
internal pulse through manifold - external pulse
solid mounted carb - rubber isolated mount
walbro - tillotson carb
low top or HD high top filter options - only HD high top
large crank flywheel snout - small flywheel snout
separate key flywheel - cast in key in flywheel

On the rear of the tank those are limiter pins. There are two options per side for their location, on the bottom allows more movement in the AV, or higher up on the chassis which goes into a hole in the tank which is less movement.

now i know where those left over screws go!!

This is the only saw that ever beat me at a GTG while running a Stihl 084. Both of us had 36" bars on board. I was running stock and 404 chain and he was running muff modified and skip tooth chain. He nipped me on both sides of the log. Needless to say, I was impressed with that thing. Nobody else there could touch either one of us but he cleaned my clock to take top eliminator.
