Yes and No

You can get the access system for the saw ( on eBay & other places ) to plug it in and pull codes and factory reset but you can not update the software with out being a licensed Husky dealer or maybe paying them to let you get access, but I’ve never heard of that happening.

I got the kit off eBay for like $70?

They pop up every once in awhile

The hardware kit to plug huskies in is $125, stihls is like 700 or something crazy. I charge 15 a piece to update or plug in so it doesn’t take long to pay for kit. A good dealer should certainly be able to!

I don’t get it either, but it’s kept me from trying an AT Husky, lol. The only dealer I know that has one is over an hour away.

Correct to use it you need a dealer login. That’s one area I like what Stihl did!

I assumed so. Especially for updates. I know with my auto scanners if I need to use factory programming with many makes I need to pay a fee or subscription. But at least they give me the option. Yes I’m a repair shop but I’m not a new car dealer. You would think they would do the same for Husky/Stihl software. If not for the general public at least small engine repair business. Right to repair right?

This topic has been talked about quite a bit if you search this and other small engine/saw forums.

The issue is that Husky is the creator of the saws and owner of the software and we are just customers who are at their mercy. Granted we could all “mentally unionize” and say no more, nobody is ever buying another auto tune Husky product, but when has the human race ever gotten together for anything like that and succeeded. It’s like a battle between a bad behaving child and a good discipline minded parent…… the kid always breaks. The only thing that influences a manufactures decision is money or the sudden lack of it. So the only reason they will ever give the consumer any kind of access is a considerable sales drop of auto tune items by way of the customer or retailers not buying. Even then their insurance department will be hopping up n down shouting “ can the customer do anything stupid with it and sue us and can we get out of being responsible”
You could also think of it like cell phones….why arnt there people out there hacking the saw and telling everyone how to do it? The numbers are vastly different, billions of phones vs maybe a few million AT saws. I’m sure it can be done, but there isn’t any honest or dishonest profit in it for the average Joe either so it ain’t gonah happen until Husky is ready to.

Very true. Just annoying when you can’t work on your own stuff no matter how many tools you have. If it wasn’t for the fact every husky dealer is different it wouldn’t be so bad. If they all had the equipment and had a standard reasonable fee across the board that would be nice. First world problems I suppose.

I def agree on the fee.

In the past 3 years Ive called 4-5 dealers within 25miles and it goes from $45 for an update to $75an hour flat shop/tech rate and an hour minimum charge. One place told me they wont touch a AT saw that they didn't sell. Personally having the computer bits makes it not too bad until I need to buy a new carb that isnt already flashed for cheap online somewhere.

I’d say the newest 562xp is a decent saw. I just finished porting this 562xp. It handled a 24” 3/8 full comp aggressive square filed chain pretty decent. It has the dished piston, 550xp style cylinder base gasket, and a muffler very similar to a 572xp.

I have only done one of these. I cut the top of the piston flat and 0.030 from the squish. The saw had no guts…i ended up swapping out the piston out for a MKI. It made a very noticeable difference.
