 where the hell did you get those numbers Bwadley ?

I knew this was gonna get good.
From STIHL.
MS 300
MS 461/462 & 500 (attached)

Ah fu(k, I read the chart wrong, in Freedom Units it's:
MS 300 C-M: 4.5 HP, 10.6 lbs
MS 462 C-M: 6.0 HP, 13.2 lbs and up
MS 500i: 6.7 HP, 13.9 lbs and up
The lightbulb units got me again. I was wondering how that little creamsickle made so much power.

I go back and read the page in German and the units don't make sense, it says 3kW, and that's not 4.5HP. Google Translate must be using that new A.I. crap (see attached photos), and the weight converted wrong too. WTF

So now it's:
MS 300 C-M: 4.0 HP, 11.5 lbs
MS 462 C-M: 6.0 HP, 13.2 lbs and up
MS 500i: 6.7 HP, 13.9 lbs and up

I got excited for nothin'. I coulda hit on the hot chick at the bar if I wanted that much disappointment.

MS 300 C-M: 4.5 HP, 10.6 lbs
MS 462 C-M: 4.5 HP, 13.2 lbs and up
MS 500i: 5.0 HP, 13.9 lbs and up

You might be right, but it's not looking good for the MS 461/462.

***Correction, I read the STIHL chart wrong, it's:
MS 300 C-M: 4.5 HP, 10.6 lbs
MS 462 C-M: 6.0 HP, 13.2 lbs and up
MS 500i: 6.7 HP, 13.9 lbs and up
I do not doubt they will keep pushing their battery products but as for total phase out there is no way they will do that. It is similar to a few years ago when the automakers said they would phase out gas/diesel.

I remember about 12-15 years ago when Central Boiler was saying that they were discontinuing the conventional boiler due to the EPA. I was on the phone with them this winter and they are still building them.

That's why it's a good idea to use your own head and common sense instead of letting a mechanism do it for you.

Across the board....

My first 261 was a mutt the day I got it. Got a little better each tank. Eventually had Randy port it then it went down the road when my 346 infatuation started. The point being, 346 noticeably better in the hands.

Amazing the amount of work you can accomplish with one.

Are we still bidding up the US price? I feel like more months of inflation plus tarrifs will land this around $899 in my hood.

They will never make it simple today but for many years Stihl had the most simple model numbering system of any saw manufacturer. They still have the most simple bar pattern of any saw company. I challenge anyone to find another saw company that from 1959 until today only has 3 bar mounts.
It was simple but not real telling on saw size a lot of times, 041 is same size or smaller than an 038 depending on what one, 034 super the same as a 036 cc wise 012 av is larger than an 020.

I'm waiting on that 600i. A fuel injected 90cc saw would be the bees knees. But stihl hasn't really cared much about timber fallers since the 90's. So even if they did, expect it to be geared toward city oriented arborist
This is going to be happening but no idea what they will be numbering it. The little saws aren’t cost effective to be efi. The new 564 is almost priced to high for its 60cc class.

The MS-300 is a nice looking saw, but the only way I will buy one is used at a good price. Which is how I acquired the three Stihl saws and two hedge trimmers I currently have! Echo CS-501P is five bills brand new at an actual Echo dealer here and I fail to understand how any other 50cc saw is as good or better value than that. And it still has a regular carb, if thats your thing. I like my own 501P (and especially my S&S ported 500P!) much better than the MS-261 I used to have, and if the latter had an advantage in power or anything else performance related I couldn't tell. If anything, the two Echo saws are more productive in my hands because they seem more lightweight and nimble, whereas the 261 felt big and clumsy for a 50cc saw. Subjective, yes, but that's my honest take on it and I bet Mainer in Alaska would agree!
