Agreed.... no need or desire for FI in a chainsaw.... M-Tronic is complicated enough as it is.... (coming from 10 yrs of working at stihl shops, certified stihl tech, echo mastertech, owning 3 mtronic or predecessor saws, ms261cmb, ms280c and ms661cm) just give me a dang carb and some screws to twiddle and i can make it run like its supposed to...I'm glad they aren't.

From a user stand point, they are amazing. From a tech stand point, the mtrons are a pain in The arse... does it run? Yep... does it run right? Maybe.... how far has the carb self adjusted for the torn intake boot or pulse line that the end user didnt realize was an issue, because it still ran... how cooked is the piston now because of that? Here, let me pull out the laptop and diag cable to find out....You may be able to twiddle, but 9.9 out of 10 times the end user can't. And then there's the other obvious reasons auto carbs are good. I'm still trying to understand what is so complicated about m-chwonic, But... I'm slow.
I am very familiar with it, the complications are from the issues it MASKS..... see my other postMtronic is a very simple system....
If it werent for the ham fisted knuckle dragging tree guys i wouldnt have a single mtron sawThat makes sense, I get that.
Don't worry, about 10 years after Stihl stops producing them, @Bill G will still have several NIB 261s (probably mTronic and carb versions) in one of his shed/barns for sale. He seems to know what to squirrel away for later! All I have to say is they had better not cut the 261 before I can get my hands on a new one!
Not rumors according to the stihl rep i used to deal with before moving south... dont recall the timeline of the update though....All I have to say is they had better not cut the 261 before I can get my hands on a new one! Are they really replacing it? Or just rumors?
Bummer. But maybe the 300 will be better. They've had good luck with the 400 around here at least. Not rumors according to the stihl rep i used to deal with before moving south... dont recall the timeline of the update though....
The 500i is a dirty saw and dirty saws are going away. Injected strato is the future.Stihl's FI is really simple; It is essentially a divorced diaphragm carburetor with an injector and digital controller. The complication comes from how Stihl supports the system. I'd rather have a non strato cylinder and digital injection (500i) than an old carburetor, same as the car I'm sitting in whlle pecking out this post.

Once you are cognizant of that its not a big deal. They are still a carb two stroke albeit with a solenoid controlling fuel flow.I am very familiar with it, the complications are from the issues it MASKS..... see my other post
I have some doubts. Stihl released a new non strato FI concrete saw not long ago.The 500i is a dirty saw and dirty saws are going away. Injected strato is the future.
