Hi guys, will be doing lowering my cylinder approx 12 thou.... squish currently at ~.030, would like to get to ~.018ish.......
Stihl 361 with fairly low hours (less than 10 gallons). Since the ring (s) will be heading into virgin territory, replace them or run it? Thanks for any info!

The virgin territory isn't a problem with a chrome bore cylinder. If however the rings are worn that they have an excessive end gap they then should be replaced at this time. I recommend either OEM or Caber rings for replacement, some AM's are a little soft and will not give good service life. Sounds like yours should be good with that little of time on them.

The rings aren't on top of the piston they will never be in untraveled space but maybe by a few thou .

Oh Lawdy. Use the "Master Mind " method of cleaning up a cylinder using 3m "greenies" and run it .It's not like a flat head Ford with 120 thousand miles on it with a big nasty ring breaking ridge .

IDK, Cabers are like $12. I’d probably toss at least a new top one in for $6 and keep the other as a spare. Bottom ring won’t be running over anything virgin.
