Just joined the group and hope to get some advice.

While working for the University of Maine School of Forestry back in 1991 I purchased a Husqvarna 254 XP Professional from the University. The school offered a logging class and each student was issued a new saw which was stored in the lab and they operated and serviced by the future forester after projects throughout the semister. At the end of the semister the school sold off the saws. I asked the instructor for the "pick of the litter" and purchased the saw in the attached photo.
Over the past 35 years I've cleaned up about 4 wind blown trees. Over time I've moved the saw with me from Maine to Georgia to Louisiana and finally to Virginia! My better half thinks its time for me to find a new home and is threatening to give the saw to our grass cutter! She's probably is on the right track since at age 73 with some heart issues I probably don't need to go back into the woods looking for trouble!

Is a saw of this vintage of any value to someone other than our grass cutter? My wife questions my sanity when I tell her it might be of "value" to someone!

The saw does have some paint on the handle (id marker for the student) but otherwise is in very good condition with original decals & owners manual. It's been stored in a Husky plastic carrying case for these years.

Any advise or commente is appreciated!

How much is the grass cutter willing to pay for it? It's a very desirable saw for a Husqvarna guy.

As you probably know, it's a good saw. There have certainly been some technological advances in the last 35 years, but that saw is still desirable to someone who wants a simple, reliable machine and doesn't want to pay what they want for new stuff. I'd hazard a guess that if it runs, oils, idles, etc that it's probably worth $250ish. If you cleaned it up and threw a new chain on it maybe even $350. So, if your grass cutter appreciates that kind of equipment and you're feeling generous, it'd be a very nice gift.

Thanks for the feedback. My fear was my better half was going to donate it to the lawn help to the to get it out of the garage! I'll think I'll clean it up and post it on this forum when I am allowed by the site administrator.
I'm sure someone on here would love to have it. I'm not able to use the saws i have now or I would be interested in it.

I must agree with everyone so far. Its easily worth $300 if thoroughly cleaned up and still has good compression numbers....+140psi Its a great 1st saw for any homeowner who knows small engines and likes maintaining them.
