I have a 9" 404- 1935, they are hard to tell apart from the newer SB 9" but getting back to it I went the serpentine belt splice on mine too, cheap, quiet and works great.

I have a 9-11-13 manufactured 9cy that I would like to give a good cleaning and go over one of these days.

9C 's were manufactured starting in 1939. Are you sure the 13 isn't a 43? The south Bend website shows first production of 9 inch lathes (the junior variety) in 1914.
Just curious. A serial number would confirm it. It is located at the far right end of the bed next to the fastening screws (see photo).

Here is the link to the SB Lathe Serial Number Page. Grizzly is the official Dealer for SB Lathes.

They will even send you the manufacturing data card for your lathe for a fee. (see Photo)

This lathe was delivered to one of my former employers in 1940. If memory serves me, it is still in use!
Will get a couple pics tomorrow.
Been too busy.
I was shooting from memory of the tags so it's likely that I am mistaken of exact digits.
I remember seeing the stamped in serial number like was pictured above.

My 1935 404 came with a 1&3/8 s thread 0n the spindle- to hard to find chucks for so I changed it to a 1&1/2 off a model C with very little alteration, came with all the change gears which is rare and they are also 20 teeth per inch instead of the newer C's that are 18 per inch, well worth restoring these older SB's- use mine about 3 or 4 times a week on average.

Wow, you may be right! That is a LOW Serial Number. Great find. Id be curious if you contacted Grizzly for the Build Card where exactly that Lathe was shipped to and when. Good Luck!!

It is fully functional and "tight".
I believe it was "freshened up" and then has just sat for a long time collecting dust.
Power feeds all work and it came with a healthy set of change gears.
