Need some 272 cylinder ID help

Got a line on a guy who has a stack of husky bits he is trying to get rid of. I'm trying to get hold of a 272 top end. What's the best way to get him to correctly id the cylinder?
52mm I know. Were they all tapped for a decomp? What part numbers should he look for? Were they all mahle, or other manufacturers too?
He sent me a bunch of pics for a 281 - those I knew and could say "nah mate", but I need some help to guide him.

They were not all decomp, my 272 has an early non decomp cylinder. I have only ever seen Mahle, but have heard of KS as well.

One of the easiest ways to tell is that they're a flanged cylinder, which means the bottom of the cylinder has a flange that goes into the crankcase, and it's a straight flange. The flange on the 181/281/288 is "stepped". So a straight flange with closed transfer ports on a 52mm bore.

Send them all to me and I will weed out the 181/281 stuff

From what I can tell the 272 says 52ZN22 and W(number) Mahle
I think most 181 are KS cylinder cylinders. The exhaust mounting plate on the 272 looks blocky with wings and the 181,281,288 plate is very oval or elliptical.
The top fin on a 272 is cut around one of the cylinder bolt holes.
If you have the intake block you could measure it also.

That three hole fin and the little rectangle on the center is the first thing I look for and I'm not sure if another 52mm with that appearance exists unless there's a jonsered version.

The Jred's in that family topped out at 50mm with the 670's and are easily differentiated by the big rectangular rubber boot style intake spigot.
The 630's had the block intake but were 48mm.

are the non decompressions kolben cylinders?

does Mahle/have they stamped all the husqvarna cylinders or what other markings denote early/late via sn# and/or differentiate the cylinders?

Both Kolben Schmidt and Mahle made non decompression cylinders as noted.

No idea what the casting numbers mean on the cylinders, only way I know if it is an early or late one is by how old the saw is, also as far as I know the non decompression valved ones were early. SS

Ks cylinders usually have a date cast into the base. I dont think mahle does anything to denote date
