now i have
064
ms660 clone
Makita 6401/ w BB

and only have a 24 and 36 to put on them.

36 is used for milling and when needed.

A 24 bar has been on all three saws. Should I just get a couple more 24's to keep the amount of different chains down??

Now i have a ms361 clone kit and a Stihl ms261.

The ms261 has been wearing a 18 .325 bar w/ about 8 chains.

Thinking about just getting another 18" bar for the ms361 and a 325 rim.

Does this sound like a good plan?

It'll work, and would keep those extra chains of yours moving.

I prefer 20" 3/8 on my 361. I could totally see using a 24" on it for limbing once trees are on the ground. The thought of it soothes my aching back lol.

It's a slippery slope, as you'll find out for yourself. If you're not careful, the next time you look out into the garage, you'll have a dozen or more bars on various gauges, pitches, and lengths.

What I've personally found is that I don't much like my 24" bar. If I was bucking big stuff all the time, I'd probably use it a lot more, but as is, I generally go right from a 20" to a 28". 20" does most of my firewood bucking in wood over 14".

I think an 18" .325 bar on the 361 would be alright, especially with an 8 pin rim. I'd try it with the bar you have before buying another, though, since it doesn't cost anything to do that. I'd definitely suggest adding a 20" 3/8 bar to use on your bigger saws. Try out on all three and see which you like it on the best. Any of the three of them should be a real ripper with that setup (could try an 8 pin there too), and it'll be lighter and more maneuverable than the 24" bar. Also, it'd be a good fit on the 361.

Just some thoughts, based on what I've found I use the most.

I may have a NIB 24" Oregon powermatch plus bar if you're interested. I just gotta check tomorrow.

You need a 28" stihl light weight in your life just saying.
