My buddy tried to steal my 421

He wnt be the last 1 to convert if they run a 421, great saws! I hear that they are a angry beaver ported! @Miller Mod Saws does amazing with them, Carl is a top notch guy to deal with also. Hope to get my son's 421 done this fall myself by him.

I am not a big fan of the 40cc saws, but the one Carl built and had in TN was a little dynamo. I ran a lot of saws in TN and Carl's Dolkita 421 was top 2 of most impressive (the other being in the 90cc range). It reminded me of the Road Runner zipping around and beepin' (off the rev limiter). If I were looking for a 40cc saw, Carl's would be it. I ran a ported Stihl 241 also and would still take Carl's, even if price was the same.

I had a similar experience with letting a friend try my 421. His 029 sat in the truck the rest of the day and he didn't want to use my 2252 or 359 either. Great little saw.

Follow-up. If I had to pay retail, I would certainly NOT get the Husq. 543. It's way over priced for what it is (or isn't). I'd go for a 421 for value budget or the MS241 FTW on an unlimited budget. I just happened to run into a sweetheart deal on a a very good little saw.

A 543 is a 300 dollar saw in my opinion...maybe 350.

Mine has held up well and it gets worked HARD .. but it feels cheap in my opinion..and the air filter sucks.

I agree with that. I handled one at my dealer about a year ago and just couldn't see the near $500 pricetags as reasonable for what it is. For $300 I might find myself looking to adopt one

My father in law has a 6400 and says it's getting to be too much for him and what he does at 65 years old with shoulders ruined from hauling cars with a screamin Detroit for 30 years.

I let him use my 346NE with no time limit on him to return it. But yesterday I was telling him to look at the 421. He told me he talked with the dealer who sold him the 6400 a few years back (a small hole in a wall kind of shop) and the guy said he could send him home with a 421 for $275 out the door! I told him to buy two at that price!

I've never run one, but if I ever get the hankerin for something smaller than my 346 it will be a 421 coming home. Just the fact its a mag case saw for the price it is makes it the clear choice for me. I say all of this based on testimony like this thread right here. I get the feeling that Pops might just go pick one up after talking to me about it.

No not GKS, this is a really small little hole in the wall shop up by LaFargeville I think. And yes, a red Dolmar. If I had the extra jingle I would buy one myself right now, but I've had some extra expenses recently. Just have to be content with my badass 394 I just built.

GKS no longer sells Dolmar, but they have a used 7910 for sale right now. Under 400 bucks if I recall.
