One thing I don't like about these new saw is that air injection. It sounds great in theory & I'm sure it works in other parts of the globe where you don't get wood dust every time you make a cut.lol. I plug the A/I port, the way they work is take air from the front of the saw instead of the rear, that is great if all your generating is uniform nice big chips but dry hardwood here you get chips & finer dust. A tank or two on a ms261 hd2.IMG_20181127_112346.jpg

I remember 1st time I had anything to do with the air injection on a saw I was scratching my head thinking isin't it ment to keep the filter cleaner? it was worse!
Good idea blocking it don't know why I didn't think of that lol

Got most parts cleaned up found some better covers just putting it back together.
Cleaned the carbon off the top of the piston and out of combustion chamber nothing more needed really it's not a bad saw under all the crap.
Needs a clutch drum that's one thing on the 88's I used to keep an eye on don't remember how many drums this saw has had but if you let them get to thin they rip open and take the side of the saw out learned the hard way with that.

For the guy's wondering what the difference in Rim size from 3/8 to .404
.404 top 7- 8- 9
3/8 bottom 7- 8

It's done only thing left to do is get them dirty again lol both good saw's plenty of life left in them would see me out.

Here's the carb in the ms880 for guy's that keep track of that stuff. Still has the limiters never felt the need to remove them saw ran good with the adjustment available (it's 100% stock saw).

Yeah I like hard nose bars they suit the 88's both saw and bar being almost bullet proof.
I do run sprocket noses bars and hard nose bars depends on what ya doing both have pro's and con's over each other.
I wouldn't run hard nose bars over say 30inch you can't tension the chain as tight on a hard nose bar as you would a sprocket nose bar.
Bad things happen if put the same tension as you would a sprocket nose using a hard nose bar.

You should check out EBay for hardnose bars. They are often heavily discounted as there merits are'nt appreciated by the general population. I've seen NOS GB 30" for like $30-$40, Carlton (German & Canadian). Suppliers stock them, struggle to move them so they discount the hell outta them. You may able to buy 2/3/4 bars for the price of a 1 Shteehl.

I've been looking at the GB hard nose bars never tried them before as you say Stihl are a rip off was paying like $190 for a 20inch at the dealers.
I actually don't like the Stihl hardnose bars now days hey are chit the radius on the nose is all wrong (the type in pic above)
The best I've used myself and used for years are Oregon hardnose bars but not sure they are even made in Canada anymore? remember reading something on the internet about it might not have been true who knows that's the internets for ya lol
Only need a couple new bars to see me out now I don't work running a saw anymore only do firewood for myself got a few padocks of old dry Ironbark the 88's hardnose and .404 will be good in that stuff.

I have a Stihl ms 362 I’m rebuilding right now and the plating is wore of the cylinder on the intake side mostly around the stratto ports. Lots of dust/sawdust on inside of the air filter. 4-5 year old tree service saw with the old style air filter that never got cleaned or cleaned enough. I’ll post pics this afternoon

forgot to post photos of the worn out 362 cylinder, said ran fine beginning of the log but about half way through it just quit is what I was told. Tree service saw was definitely dirt and sawdust ingestion, inside of the air filer has dust and actual chips

Had a chance to give the ms880 and 088 a little run few cuts.
Had some problems I had the chain to tight on the ms880 after dressing the bar and didn't have a scrench with me that worked that is the one I picked up the screwdriver was half snapped off lol was only going to do a few cuts what could go wrong lol
And I forgot to do the 088 clutch up with a rattle gun holding it WOT and hitting the chain brake wouldn't do it up tight keeped coming loss when I shut the saw off. You can here the clutch pack undoing and rubbing on the drum when I shut the saw off in the vid.
Not great wood but still loaded the saw's up the 088 has new bar ms880 has old plain bar both 7pins and RS 404 round filed.
The ms880 is 100% stock The muffler still even has the pee hole outlet.
I need to give both a longer run and tune them.

the more acute radius bothers you?
Or what do u mean?
Yeah I don't like the new radius myself few reasons one being if top bar it gets red hot fast like it adds more load the chain doesn't run smooth around it. Am sure I read somewhere it's new improved low kickback radius:nusenuse:

They both scrubbed up real nice. With a decent .404 semi chisel chain they get the work done. I like my 660, Solo 681, 7900 but I often feel outgunned & wish I had a big saw. Even my old Contra I bought home from the tip has more to torque than muh fancy 80 & 90cc saws.

Year I think u read it right, they Change nearly any bar for a lower kickback potential
