My favorite tree service "go to saw" for the last 5 years is my mm 562XP-20". Last spring I sold my Old Edition 372XP that held the title earlier.
I just built a '92 066 Mag -20" that weighs PHO less then a MS461 and with its sister a '97 066 Mag 28"-36" those two will handle anything I can throw at it.

But I compare the 562,XP to the MS462. Both have narrow low profile with a long rear handle to bar pad length to give good leverage with a longer bar.
Was anyone surprised when the 60cc 562XP came out that it was factory rated for 28" b/c?

The 562 is a freight train longer in leverage then my old 272XP.
But now with the MS462 at 72cc and being the same weight as the 562XP....no brainer the 562XP will be the backup saw with the 066Mag-20" hybrid fighting for 1st place.
My 2017 MS261CM will take care of table scraps:D

The 562 is about a 1/2lb lighter pho and cutting weight (its 560/2260 brother is lighter still)... but I get where your coming from. The 462 seems like it’s going to be the lightest in its class for sure.

On the subject of, 7901 vs 461....

I own both, I hardly use the 7901. Is it faster then the 461, not sure, never put a stop watch on them. Few thing'z I dislike about the 7901,

- 7901 starter handle being angled towards the back of the saw. (I like how 461 is straight up and down)

- 7901 muffler is a PITA to remove, have to pull the inner felling spike off to remove muffler to have a look see at the piston. (muffy on a 461 is so easy to remove a blind monkey could do it)

- I like one master control lever, like on the 461, 7901, got choke on one side, and on/off switch on the other side.

- I prefer rubber AV, over springs.

- Few other things I dislike about the 7901, but... 99% of the time I cut wood it will be with a 461, or another 1128 family saw.

461, just feels better in my hands, YMMV...

I think Husqvarna fattened up the 562XP in the last few years .
Check Husqvarna.com it specs the 562XP at 6.1kg(13.448 lbs)

Stihl MS462 on the Stihl site is spec at 6 kg (13.228 lbs)

Those specs have been out for a few years now. On the Husky site 562 page you have to scroll all the way down past the comments to see the weight 6.1kg.

Unless there is someone in the "know" that can say how the 562 was "fattened up", it is possible they just corrected a previous error.

That said they may have "over compensated", as I believe the true weight (based on pics on scales from known sources) is about 13 lbs.

I distrust manufacturer's claims, and pics from unknown sources. All manufacturers have been caught fibbing, and the pic Mason posted does not show if that saw has a chain cover on it, a common trick to reduce the weight. There are also often rounding errors when going from lbs to kg.

FYI, 462s have been put on the scale and generally show the advertised weight.

Bottom line, the 462 s/b a great saw for someone looking to run a 20 or 24" bar. (No it is not really a 25" bar, just compare it to a 20" bar and that will be obvious. The reason Stihl re named it 25" (same specs as the old 24") is because the 28" bar is really a 27" bar, and they don't want you to realize that.

I’ve never cared enough to measure, but is the measured length tip to rail or exposed area once the clutch cover is on?

How about the Tsumuras and Sugihara's Mike? Are they the same as Stihl's? Or are they true 24 and 28" ?

May not be exact, but basically your cutting depth w/o any dogs on the saw.

Jeff, they all use chains with the same link count, so they are all pretty similar. If they changed things up from OEM, you would go crazy trying to figure out the link count.
