The first modification would be to gut the muffler
Yup about a 1/2 hole.
I would be surprised if it didn't make a vast difference Mike .Damm EPAAlso, the internal baffle. Will be interesting to see if the "non ported" saws benefit from removal of the baffle, or not.
I had that experience bringing a MS381 back from Bali customs thought it had fuel in it but it wasn't started or had bar oil they were telling me it had to go freight, fortunately common sense prevailed and they let me bring it in I was chitting bricks for about 15 minutes thoughHindsight is 20/20 but I'd have specified the dealer not put any fuel/bar oil in the saw as customs can be +#%*'s when they want to. It would have raised Vince's blood pressure at the airport.
Yes they do look nice there JeffI am a big fan of the stainless steel mufflers. [emoji106]

Customs are really anal on fuel residuesGod damn!! Customs wouldn't let me travel with it [emoji35][emoji37]
Panic attack with an hour before the flight takes off to organize shipping some how to home.
They reckon because it has been test fired there is some remnants of fuel in it. Nothing in the tank but has the slightest smell of fuel.
So will be a few weeks before I reunite with it [emoji17][emoji22]
My nephew is with the local FD here it can't adapt quick enough to the heat and smoke in a fire ,he reckons it's not reliable enoughThat's interesting to see a rescue version. Been a lot of reports that mtronic hasn't worked out in fire situations.
Sorry to hear about that Vince.
A few years ago I was in Mexico looking to take home a MS381 with me.
But backed out as the 2 dealers I found ran up all their saws before they put them on their shelves.
But yeah factory fuel residues could be a problem on board an airline. Especially in eco sensitive Germany.
Talked to my contact at Stihl Canada today and he says unlikely to see the 462 till next fall or into 2019 .
They want to do more cold temp and altitude testing up north (Canada) before they release it in Canada .
Good way to look at it is they will be working out issues and when it does reach here it should be trouble free .
That's what I was told guys , don't hate the messenger
And I think that includes the 500i as well .

I'd hope so and maybe they should of tested it out like last year a long with testing it in the cold too.The 462 is the first saw with MTron Ver II, maybe it can handle it???
Yep West coast and East coast of North America doesn't have temperatures in the 30 below range, where many saw have to work in.Talked to my contact at Stihl Canada today and he says unlikely to see the 462 till next fall or into 2019 .

They should been testing them in Sweden.Yep West coast and East coast of North America doesn't have temperatures in the 30 below range, where many saw have to work in.
But Stihl must have tested the 462 in the interior of Alaska, B.C. and states like Minnesota.
Sweden temps even in the far northern parts don't get down all that cold. More like a interior B.C. winter. They should been testing them in Sweden.
