Has anybody had a crank out of a 462 yet, what does it look next to a 461 crank ? A lot of people say the 462 lacks a little torque compared to the 461 and husky 572.

The 462 has a 2mm shorter stroke than a 461. I was wondering what the rod bearing size was on the 461 and 462 and if the rods could maybe swapped. A stroked 462 would be a fun project if its possible.

I've looked for pics of the two cranks but haven't found any.

Forget it. These 2 saws belong to different series. One difference between these 2 is the piston pin bearing size and as you`ve already said the stroke is also different.

A 461 piston will swap into a 462 with some work.
So the wrist pins are the same size ? I wouldn't think the piston would work being from a non strato saw. But if the wrist pins are the same that clears up that end. Now I just need to know about the big end.

I've been thinking about it a while. I was hoping somebody on here had had the cranks out of both saws to compare them. There's 461 cranks out there everywhere but no 462 cranks that I've found. Don't really want to buy a new one and I don't really want to tear into my saw just to find out.

I may just buy a $25 Chinese 461 crank to compare (not use) to my 462. Worst case I'm out 25 bucks. Lots of irons in the fire at the moment.

Going out here in a minute to put the motor back in my truck. About a $6500 build there so chainsaw stuff is on the back burner for the moment.

Like I said, mainly just posted looking to see if someone had compared the two.
Falicon used to make custom connecting rods but they no longer offer that service.

I'll get back around to it sooner or later and when I do I'll post it up. I'm not a full time chainsaw user, I cut a little firewood for recreational use but mainly use my saws for cleanup around the property. And building my annual family bonfire for new years.

I think I would try to find some junk 462 cake halves and a 461 crank to mock it up. As long as the small end on a 462 is smaller you may be able just open up a 462 piston to sit on a 461 crank and rod.

I may do that. Don't see many 462's fried on ebay. I'll keep an eye out here as well.

I have mixed feelings … I know the stroked 661 were very impressive saws … but …

Part of what makes the 462 such a nice saw is it's light weight and lightning quick throttle response.

I think stroking the saw will negatively affect those 2 attributes. Ported 462s are pretty awesome saws!

I don’t think the 2mm longer stroke will add too much weight mike...
