Hey guys, need some help; I have an MS460 that had an over sized bar stud installed. The threads for the nut on the stud are screwed up, but I can't seem to find a replacement. Called stihl and their replacement would work, BUT a helicoil was already installed by someone. The oversized stud that was in there is the same size as an 880 stud where it threads into the case, but the same size as a 460 where the nuts thread on. Hope this makes sense......any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The stud won't come out of the helicoil?

Sorry, should have clarified....the case is fine, the original stud stripped the threads on the case so an over sized helicoil was put in. Now the over sized stud's threads where the bar nuts tighten are screwed up.

Going to have to pull the whole mess and put a new helicoil in with the oversize stud.

Helicoil side of things is fine, like said....an MS880 which has the M10 size for the case threads in no problem. But it's M10 on the bar nut size as well. I need M8 for the 460. Looks like the 056 over sized stud is what I need. m10 on the case an m8 for the bar nuts. Thanks guys!

The threads on the stud are so far gone it's past believable. I wanted to do that but they are the worst I have seen yet.

Good question. lol To be quite honest...I had No idea that an 056 over sized stud would work so I never looked there....hence the reason I came to ask the experts. I'm just a mechanic. ;)
