So this is a second thread for the Ms440 to keep the two saws separate to avoid confusion. This is all my first attempt at sling rebuilds/repairs of this level so thank you all in advance for your help. This saw seemed more promising than the 460 at first but she surprised me a bit. I’ll upload all of the pictures. Besides for needing some TLC the main issue I found is a leak at the clutch side of the crank. But it’s not leaking at the seal, it looks like the actual crank itself is leaking. Is this normal? The crank itself and the bearings feel great for being this old and is definitely due for a new piston and cylinder cleaning. What’s the deal with the bubbles on the crank? Also does anyone make a good aftermarket crank or should I always go oem?
Big bore cylinder kits since I’m already this far into it? Thank you all! My case splitter and seal puller should be in this week. Right now both saws and all the parts are soaking in my parts washer so hopefully this weekend coming up I will clean and split the cases.

There's a bearing spacer, that goes between the clutch & the crank seal.

When the clutch is torqued properly, it should not leak.

When the clutch is off, it will leak. It's not the crank leaking.

In your 2nd & 3rd picture it looks like the spacer is still on the crank, and the clutch is off, so it will leak there, between the crank & spacer.

Get your hands a IPL for ms440's it will help.

Item #11 is the bearing spacer.

I have the ipl for the saw just wasn’t aware of that being a possible reason for it. I noticed when I took the saw apart that #’s12-13 were non existent. Possible they were stuck on the back of the oil pump? Everything was caked with oil and as soon as I got the pump off I tossed it in my parts cleaner without looking it over. If that’s the case then my bottom end of that saw should be good. Just need a new piston and rings with some cleaning and new rubber pieces. I think I have all those parts on order plus I have the other ones from the 460 so I should be able to make a good saw with all of it. I’ll work on it some more Monday after I get out the trees

been super busy with tree work and haven’t had time to play with them much. Got them torn all the way down and found a crack in the 440 case. I got a new used case and it is getting powder coated alongside my 460 case. Once I get those back I’ll start reassembly
