The sprocket drum bearing surface on the crank on the 362 is pitted
So the replacement 362 crank is very expensive £256
So I’m going to buy a cheep 361 crankshaft & swap the 12mm con rod to the new 361
My question is has this been done before

Not that I’ve heard of and would require pressing apart and pressing back together properly indexed and wirh acceptable run out which will require special tools and equipment. Better off buying a used 362 crank besides the cheap aftermarket rods and cranks aren’t know for durability in the first place. If it’s just the drum bearing surface you’d be better off trying to build that end up and turn it back down than the rod change out.

Ok here we go
The new 361 crank (£25+£4p&p) turned up today but with the 10mm con rod
I’ve pressed apart both cranks a swapped the con rod
I’ll add a few pic here

These pic are of separating the new 361, the 362 took 5 ton pressure to get it moving and 2 ton there after, the new 361 took 2 ton.. I’ve pressed other cranks at 10 ton these 2 where easy..
But it helps if you have the dogs bollock 5 our 30 ton press with tonnage gauges newly acquired £300.
I’ll add a few more pic here

Done that turned shaft bored drum to suite bigger rollers works well for me but you can’t sell it on though

But your comfortable selling it with all that work and a China crank. To each there own but if it were me I’d rather have an all oem crank with repaired clutch end or used crank vs a China crank with an oem rod. Just the 3 tons difference in force has to say something about the difference in machined tolerances.

Seems a lot of work to the untrained eye, Have a 362 here done with the last available second hand oem 362 crankshaft imported from America “Chainsawr” £90 inc tax p&p that was a good buy,
repaired clutch end would be a bodge as for tolerances everything measures up good to 3 decimal places metric
This type of project is just called experimental with the right 2 oem cranks 1 good one can be saved

Find it hard to believe a 362 crank is that hard to find where I would swap rods to make one. The 362s are all over the place and while it’s a durable saw that runs a long time there should be still a ton of smashed or straight gassed ones. In the case of your saw I would have just personally held on till a busted one showed up.

Smashed, straight gassed sized, busted saw with a good oem crank
Is that possible
Most good crank saws are probably in daily use

Not here in the states tons of busted case saws that don’t get fixed, heck lots of straight gassed saws that unless they rebuild their own they end up in dealer scrap bin. I probably have a couple spare cranks that were in run over saws ect.

These are on eBay for 59$ new and supposedly made in the USA but I have a hard time believing that
