So still raining here, power came back on late last night... Back to the 200.

Measured squish w/o gasket... .015" probably a little too tight...
Gasket measured .020" so .035ish for squish... Is that a normal squish on these?

If you want a tighter squish template the old gasket on some coke can. Scalpel it out and viola. The coat both sides with some silicone or gasket maker for a good seal.

Just took in a 200T project in need of a recoil assembly if anyone may have one to spare.

As a possible point of interest...

When I rebuilt my 020T it needed seals and rings (I re-used the bearings). The price of the rings themselves made it more sensible to get the whole piston kit. Rings alone were like $18 and the whole piston kit was under $25. OEM was actually less than Meteor by about $8 if I remember correctly. (No Caber rings, of course.)

Many Stihl pistons have dramatically dropped in price over the past year or so. They're evidently making their own for many models now. Always worth checking their piston prices before going aftermarket, though I'll admit some of the AM stuff seems as good or nicer than some of the OEM these days.

The Stihl p/c kits are still outrageously priced even given the drop in piston prices.

I have a lathe. I would probably take some off the base and keep the gasket... I left it alone...

At one time the price of replacing the piston and cylinder was about half the price of a new 200T ,when they were 600 bucks .The first AM kits I saw for sale was on a British chainsaw site I used to post on .At that time they were half of OEM .I have never heard if those or any other AM kits were worth a damn or not .Flea bay at that time was full of cooked 020 and 200-T's .
I've never bought an OEM piston always either found good used or Meteor .On the later my only compliant is those fat azzed cir-clips .used OEM clips problem solved

Poge,
The Meteor piston kit comes with Caber rings....Meteor owns Caber or the other way around. and yes I buy the kits and never only the rings....makes no cents to me. Same thing with the gasket kits sets. better to buy the whole kit then just the seals.

Understood. Guess it was stated sorta muddy like. For clarification...

What I meant was no Cabers with the OEM (as there would be with the Meteor).

Silver Cabers look just like OEM for 361. Some OEM are black on the lands and some silver. Just what I've seen. I have seen black suppose to be OEM rings for 200. @Lone Wolf

I never paid much attention to chainsaw rings .However normally when speaking about rings silver would be a chrome alloy and black would be cast iron .Of course you have tool steel rings used on some McCullochs .
A chrome ring is supposed to be a longer lasting item .The advantage cast iron has over chrome alloy is they seat faster on a used cylinder .A higher hour used cylinder will have a slight ovality to it .It doesn't affect the way it runs---much .However once a set of rings seat in the performance increase is noticeable .

The latest S61E I tried to revive with the accelerator pump fix didn't respond well to the circuit being blocked off. Went nuts instead. Wouldn't idle down at all. Would spool up like a banshee but not idle down. Broke down and ordered a Huayi(?) from DDave and it works great so far. Didn't need to touch it other than bolting it on. Was already tuned perfectly. What are those odds?

Now will it last.....

Petty good odds unless you are at a high elevation. That is a pretty good one for aftermarket.

I'm happy with it. Surprised, really. Thought I'd hafta diddle it in. Be interesting to see if it holds the tune after a few tanks and some serious cutting.

Why wouldn't it? I guess you are used to the ones that don't work at all this on works good and I think it will hold up. Report back.
