MS200T muffler splitting

Anyone have any luck splitting the muffler on a MS200T? I have the screws out and I put it in an oven at 450 degrees and it still won't come apart. They sealed it together with some sort of adhesive.

That is not typical they must have used a lot of high temp sealant. Does it have to come apart? What are you doing that its needed? Tapping stripped threads or what?

Make sure that you have all and I mean all the bolts out of it and pick a good spot to pry the two half's apart I'm guessing you want to clean the inside of the muffler or like Lone Wolf said for fixing a bad hole I've ran across a few that were pretty stubborn but if you use your thinker and be payshent you'll get it. Or if you got a solvent take let it soke in there for a day or two.

There's no real reason to modify a 200t muffler if you ask me other than match port it to the cylinder.

They come apart with a light tap or pry ,nothing more how many screws did you take out of it four I hope?

Oh and cut the sealant out along the seem with what ever fits in there.

The only reason I took them apart was to improve the flow of the exhaust through them .It's all I've done to one of my 200Ts and the other one was the full monty .BTW of all the Stihls I've worked on the o20T/MS 200T are by far the easiest models to work on . I can have one down to the bones in about a half an hour .It might take an hour and a half just to split the cases using heat on most models and at least that long reassembling it .

Ok thanks for the help. I removed the screws and used a utility knife to go around the joint and it popped apart. As far as any improvements... well its everyones opinion. I think port matching and putting a radius on the inner port entrance will help. The place I also see that could need some work is the exhaust outlet. The exhaust outlet is kind of a zig zag tunnel that could be opened up. If you look at the square exhaust outlet the top right corner has a square block of material that can be removed. Also some of the spark screen channel inside the muffler can be ground away to open it up a little. I will be attaching a new spark screen to the exhaust outlet. In my opinion its definitely worth taking the time to open it up and cleaning it up.

Hope you like ear plugs!!! Making it louder is more less what you're going to be doing the 200t is a screamer to start with so taking to much out of the muffler will heart it for low end torque just saying. But if all your doing is building a Saw's that screams it's guts out then what the heck go for it.

Well I'm not going to hog it out! Just open it up a little and smooth out some of the restrictive areas. Has far has noise I aways wear ear plugs anyway and I doubt it will be loader then any of my other muffler modded saws, but thanks for your concern.
