Last fall I bought a very reasonable ms290 from Carl off from FHC. It needed some wrenching and elbow grease It had a broken flywheel end of the crank. I gathered some various parts from the generous folks from the xmas thread, some from ebay and a crank from Ross 9.33

Thank you all for your help. What I did is put to work my 11 year old son. I sat over his shoulder but he did all the cleaning and wrenching from tear down to rebuild. He is proud of himself and I am of course very proud of him. I kept track of the costs and plan to sell this saw on ebay. He will receive the profits in his bank account after he accounts for the auction fees and material expenses.

Today we took the saw out to make a video for ebay. After I made a few cuts I let him make his first ever cut by himself.

I dressed my 11 year old up in chaps, gloves, eye and ear protection and let him make his first cuts ever with my Husky 136 a few months back.. He really enjoyed it and didn't want to stop. I had him cutting 5" wood into firewood sticks using a sawbuck while I assisted. Proud moment for sure!

It was only a couple days later I was working in the woods with my 357 and he pointed to it and asked when he would be able to use MY saws! LOL!

I plan to box that 136 up and give it to him for his birthday coming later this month.

Very cool. I picked up a 142 for my son (age 10). I let him cut a little wood with it and he did fairly well. He kinda scared the sheet out of me a couple times but they gotta start somewhere.

Great job!!! My son is 9. Every saw that has came through my shop he has worked on. I don't let him run them yet but soon. Last time we were cutting he said dad that saw isn't cutting right. You need to sharpen the chain. I laughed and told him he was right. They listen even though you don't think they are. His bank account is larger than mine. We spilt the profit 50/50.
