How's my old red light?
That was one of my favorite saws. It's still chewing up everything that's thrown in front of it at a very high rate of speed. I actually think I saw it smile the other day after it got done destroying a huge cottonwood log.

Mastermind,
I think you should label this renaissance of builds as "I learned so much I forgot what I knew."
They are all sounding great and seem to be carrying some good rpm.
I agree on the tune. Normally I'll get it close by ear and then make some cuts in 8 inch wood or so. Tweak it back and forth you can find that spot. If its lean she ll fall on her face. I go just an rch rich from as fast as it will go.

Tri port, FTRIt's amazing what happens when you finally get certain models really hauling ass. In my case, I kept looking for more, and probably went backward a little. The more you tweak the numbers to make max power, the tougher the saws get to tune just right. I can get more......but not without carb tweaks and stuff that is outside the realm of a real work saw. I'm thinking that this 044 can give us a wee bit more by adding a recoil side deflector, and ditching the dual port cover. Much more? I doubt it.
That thing is a horse. Running son of a gun.New bearings, 12mm crankshaft, new Meteor piston, ported.
What stock saw would you say the saw in the video is cutting as fast as?That thing is a horse. Running son of a gun.
Looks almost as fast as a stock 362 C-M

I have found my 066 to be picky on the tune now that I have ported it.When you start getting tuning problems I found its on both ends, get one close to max and the muffler and carb both get real picky.
Muffler is what caused my carb tuning trouble.
A ported saw will hunt some and the farther you go the more it needs to be tuned.I have found my 066 to be picky on the tune now that I have ported it.
The muffler has 3 large openings. I am thinking of making a blanking plate to seal off the front cover opening and see what that does.
Not the best picture but the 044 performed flawlessly cleaning up storm damage. My cousin had never run or been around ported saws. I think he's hooked! Thanks again @Mastermind
