I've got a friend's CLEAN red lever 026 torn down. Here's where I'm at I don't have the time tools or desire to to a full job, what I'm planning to do is a muffler mod, match the cylinder to the intake boot and widen the intake and exhaust. Thoughts? Opinions?

How do you put bevels back on after grinding? Timing advance?

You grind them back in with a diamond ball when your done with the port. Maybe consider experimenting on a saw you own before you do it for somebody else........
Ah ok. Very helpful!!! What could possibly go wrong...? My saws go to Randy.

Maybe just a timing advance, muffler mod and match the intake to the manifold? I can't afford to screw anything up...

If you cannot afford replacement of parts you ruin, I would leave it alone!
It's not that so much that as I just don't have time to do it twice. It's a very good friend that doesn't care what I do so long as it cuts nicely. I just always feel the need to try and squeeze as much as I can out of a saw...

As soon as I get this round of stuff finished we have to get our case 1070 in the shop and split it...
Hopefully we don't have to tear in too far but I pretty well takes up the shop.

So back to the saw. For a timing advance how much do you take off the side of the key and which side? Muffler mod, can I just cut the hole top to bottom into a slot? Does grinding the exhaust more cone shaped without enlarging port on the inside help? Thanks!!!

First off don’t do anything to muffler till you make sure the carb is a fully adjustable one. If it doesn’t have a wt-194 with both high and low jets you can’t adjust to more open muffler.
Second make sure you know how to tune a carb properly before doing anything to it, only reason I say this is I don’t know your skill level and you just asked about how much and what side of key to remove to advance the timing. Lastly you can’t run this saw without a base gasket so don’t even attempt a gasket delete because the piston will slap the band on the edge if not removed. Far as timing gos I remove about 20 thousandths off the key and you install it so the flywheel gos further counter clockwise looking at it.

It's the fully adjustable wt-194. I and the guy who owns the saw can both tune. So looking at the non pto side you take off the right side of the key? I wasn't planning on messing with the squish. Much thanks!!!
