I have a south bend 9 in lathe that I'm looking to get a new tool post and holder . What should I be looking to get ? I have the lantern style post now. Also need suggestions on what I cutters I need to do my own chainsaw cylinders ..

what's the price on one of those ?I've been looking at some of the cheaper ones on ebay . I'm not sure on the quality though .

That came from eBay it was around a $100 If I remember right now the 1/2 tooling can be pricey.

Mine has a shars qc tool post on it. I use 1/4 or 5/16 tooling with screw on carbides that came with the lathe.

I'm sure shars makes one to fit the op's lathe. I found my info at little machine shop, I believe

I just looked on shars' site and they do have one that fits my lathe . I definitely consider it .

I'm pretty sure that the OP has the same lathe as i do, the one i posted is the one that I put on mine. twas relatively easy to setup and use, just had to make a T nut for the compound mount

Thats a 200 series on yours, I believe the OP will run into trouble trying to center the cut of the cutter with anything else but the 100 series . Shars makes a few different series so you can center the tools vertically, in line with the lathe centerline for different size lathes ........... if a taller QC was installed, it might cut above the centerline

I drilled and tapped the compound base on mine. Locktited the 12 or 14mm stud that came with it into place. It's actually a size larger than what's recommended for mine, but several machining forums recommended the versatility of the larger one. I knew you'd gone through something similar. That's why I recommended you above

I've read that the Allen set screws are junk, otherwise the chicom knock offs work. Plan on picking up some replacement set screws from Mcmaster Carr. A friend just got a set new on ebay for a little over $100. He turned down the odd metric shaft thread for th T nut and used a 1/2" fine T nut.

I'm not that familiar with different lathes. I was just showing the versatility of the qctp. I wish my lathe was a bit more rigid. I have to keep the gibs snug to avoid chatter if I'm turning steel
