Head south!

I'm lucky enough to be a days drive to unsalted territory.

My uncle is constantly finding nice/decent rust free trucks in Oklahoma and Texas. He’s found and bought enough of them I am starting to keep my eyes out for them too down there.

I got a friend in Tulsa and an uncle in Arizona I've given them fair warning that I might need a ride from the airport one day lol.

Depends, whatever is not worked to death, rusted or plowed to death. Which is 80% of trucks here lol unless there newer and expensive.

Come down to we’re I love and buy one. Just stay out of western NC and West Virginia. Those trucks are rusted out. Middle to southern TN and Mississippi/Alabama have cheap vehicles.

It gets expensive traveling to buy a truck, but if you plan on working on your rig yourself, the value of having something that isn't rusted out is truly incredible. My 90 F250 is from Seattle. You could take it apart with a crescent wrench. Compare that to the stuff from around here. You want to be spinning nuts on a WI truck, you'd better have the oxy/acetylene torch and an angle grinder handy.

That is true for Minnesota as well. On the other hand Ryan how often do you take the truck off the farm though.

I put somewheres around 6k/year on my trucks it seems like. I used to take more cross country trips but my wife decided she'd rather fly. I might be able to talk her into it again now that I've got a nicer rig, but at the milage the 454 gets, there's have to be a darn good reason to drive it.

Even little stuff though, brakes, u-joints, hell even lug nuts are nicer to mess with on unsalted trucks. I looked pretty hard at trucks all over the place this spring. Even sent money to my SIL in Oregon. Probably woulda bought the truck I wanted out there, but she messed up the PayPal withdrawal and it cost me two days. Guy got impatient and sold it locally.

Ended up with one from MN, and I got it for a fair amount less $$ than what I'd been looking at elsewhere. I'm very happy with it so far, but I haven't had to mess with it yet. Need to get under there with some Fluid Film before it's too late.

@huskyboy, what kind of truck are you looking for?

Lookin for a half ton reg or ext cab auto trans with 4x4. Want to avoid 2wd, manual or quad cab. Just want a simple work truck. It’ll be a little bit before I’m able to buy it. I’m patient.

I’m not patient. I bought the first one I looked at and test drove when I got my 17[emoji849] I wanted a dually/cab and chassis but they couldn’t find one to get the next day so I got the 250 crew cab[emoji23]
