Some of you might remember a thread of another website, called "A stack of wee beasties"

Here is some more milled from the same huge redgum. Just a 10 ft section.

Just having fun using the dolmar 144, not my biggest saw. I just enjoy using it when the pressure is off milling for myself and friends rather than customers,

Original cut, admire my lovely bald spot. I need to make a better rail for curved logs, got abit of vibration at the end of this pass.

Start of the 2nd, bald spot now concealed under a cap.

Aren't I a messy fella...

Stacked temporarily for the moment. Still need to seal ends. Mean pile of sawsdust too. 5 bar tops, top 2 for in the garden around bbq (when dry obviously).

Looks great. Would definitely work nicely for a semi-circular bar!

Cheers,

Have to say something here for all you fella's, play with your imagination. Especially if you intend to onsell anything you mill. Start thinking about what can be done once you've taken the cap off.

In this case I thickened up my original cut, to get 4 or 5 really sturdy pieces. With 5 there is enough radius to book match the pieces end to end and make one complete fully circular bar top. All about maximizing profit and artistic return for your product.

Nice work! I have a walnut branch like that, not quite that large, and I've wanted to make some curved slabs from it. But, there's a knot or two in mine that make me wonder how stable it would be.

The granberg length guide is adjustable, in terms of where you can position the "rungs" where leveling/dogging hardware is. They basically use the same extruded channel as in the mill, and the construction is basically the same too. Wonder if you could put together something like that?

Cheers, that system has a great clamping meathod and the grub screw leveling is very nice. I am going to fabricate something similar for this marri down on the farm.

Need about 35 feet of rail..

As for that knot, a clear expoxy resin is your friend and mill it thick if you are worried about warpage. Amazing what a router planer sled can achieve. Besides what do you have to lose, it's just firewood as it is now presumably.

35 feet of rail, run it on 2x4s, 16 feet long, screw three together to get as long as you want. Good luck picking it up and moving it!!!

Logosol time. Lowering on the mill unit.

Yes this is a chainsaw finish. .325 for the win.

That's all for today. Saw issues.. Started surging, pulled down tonight. Think I have a carb kit, otherwise have a spare carb anyway.

10 tooth?? Pretty stressful cutting end grain as is, looks great.

Surprised the saw will pull that, how wide are the boards??

Without measuring, just going by amount of bar protruding (not much). 20-22" wide.

Janka is roughly 1650, so not that high. 10 tooth the saw just cruised through it. Still should prob go back to 9 for saw life.

.325 has a narrow kerf, less load on saw compared to larger chains.
