I've got a 7900 and 6100 that have both had a plug fall out of the front of their muffler. Should I replace them? I know the plugs are cheap but I'd really like to know if they are necessary or not (back pressure, spark protection, noise reduction)? Thanks, Steve.

If You are referring to the plugs that cover the mufflers bolt holes - You do not need those!

Just in case You "want" to replace them they are identical on both the 6100 and 7910 - part number 038174451

Those plugs contribute only to the saws overall weight, no performance gain or loss whatsoever.
The original/initial models, Dolmar PS-6400/7300/7900 & Makita DCS6401/7301/7901, never had them - or at least mine did not.
You are perfectly safe/fine running Your saws without those bolt hole plugs!

And one more thing, we need pictures of those saws!

The bolt hole covers along with the spark arrestor screen may be USA only requirements. And yes, photos!

Thanks gentlemen. Honestly, I've never even looked closely at what's at the other end of the open holes those plugs cover :). I'll work on some pictures as soon as I can.
