Ok looking for avice on best way to make a sump pit bigger. Its at my grandparents. They wanna put a backup in for power outages. Anyhow looking for ideas to break up the cement around the current hole to make higher one. I have one idea and drill bunch of holes little bigher then new one and try breaking out with a slege hamme. Anyone else have any ideas that dont involve renting a quick cut saw for cement.
Thanks for any advice.

Both will work. Depending on how clean you want the cut to be.

As sump pumps are next to non existing here in Croatia I have no idea what the current sump of Your parents looks like, nor can I imagine what You are aiming to get.

That been said, I have had very good results sectioning concrete by cutting it up with a 230mm/9" angle grinder and a diamond cutting wheel.
I tend to break the cut up sections with my pickax.

I got the diamond wheel at my local supermarket for ~14$, it is cutting very well.

If You try this, use all imaginable PPE, overall, gloves, glasses, mask, ear plugs . . .
Move any close by vehicles far away, close any house windows and doors . . .
You'll create a huge dust cloud and You'll earn the name Casper when You're done.

Well here is how i made out. I rented a hammer drill and made a lot of holes lol.
Cement was only about 2 to 3 inch thick was kinda surprised at how thin it was. My basement is about 6 inch thick. But it did go pretty good. Gonna pick up a battery backup probly tomorrow and put it in monday.

That is not what I imagined it looked like, at all!

In hindsight, a drill is definitely the way to go.

Good work.
I have a manual concrete breaker, like a tall slide hammer used it to make my sump like yours. Did the drill holes first
