Over the last few days I've seen a few guys become disenchanted with the process of shipping saws to be ported/repaired/sold/etc. These disenchanted people have tried to involve me in their dealings.
Hold up.
Let me be straight up here. I've been doing this shipping saws/porting saws/selling saws gig for about six years as a way to make a living. It's not........I repeat NOT an easy way to make a living. I get behind, I feel overwhelmed, I make mistakes, I'm far from perfect. BUT I try hard to be easy to communicate with. I'm willing to lose a little money rather than lose a customer. I'm ok with being wrong. I'm ok with fixing some stuff I did not mess up. And I'm damn sure willing to own my mistakes. These things are part of the gig........if you want the gig to last.
Now, let's say you send a man a saw to get done, or you buy a saw from someone and there is a problem......and there will sometimes be problems. Life is messy. What do we do? How do we handle this?
We go straight to the person we are dealing with. We allow that person to make it right. We try to be patient. We try to be understanding. We act like a human......dealing with another human. We don't involve a middle man. We don't talk trash about the guy behind his back. Remember family, plain talk is easy to understand. Talk plainly to the person you are dealing with. Please.
What if we can't reach a solution? Then we use a telephone to have as close to a face to face discussion with the person (yes we are all persons) so we can hear what they are trying to convey....the typed word leaves a lot to be desired in many cases. If that fails........then we try other means. I'm here for you if you get your ass burned. I'll try to help, but the last thing I want is to pulled into the middle of YOUR deal.
Before you commit to beginning a deal with someone that will be conducted via mail be sure to get all their contact info. Full name, address, email address, home phone, cell phone. If they can not provide these things.......avoid.
If you have a issue.......deal with it like a man.
Rant over.
Peace.
