I did a little welding on my 298 clutch cover the other day, it had a crack that I just couldn't live with.

After cleaning and ditch cutting.

Nah. PPG urethane, single stage. It's very hard when dry and i can get a nice matt finish with 0000 steel wool.

I've got the powder setup. Yet to try it.

I need to find a better paint to shoot on some husky's. I have matching paint in a can but it's soft and doesn't take brake cleaner well.

Hello guys, I tried some mag welding on my old McCulloch 740 for which I made a tuned pipe previously;

Unfortunately this saw came to me with some cracks on her shrouds, e.g. it's upper filter cover had a couple of cracks, so gave it some stitch with copper wire before I got a TIG welder this summer.

I did another try on this cover the day before yesterday simply because I thought I was not able to live with it, so gave it mag welding.

This was my first try on mag welding, so it gave me a lot to learn from it.

Looks pretty good for a first attempt!
Good morning and thanks. Have you ever tried welding aluminium to magnesium?
As far the liquidity temperature, alu has 660 Celsius, mag 650 C. While when thinking of heat conductivity the former has 118, latter nearly 92, which means heat given from arc moves away faster in alu than mag.

I've tried welding Mag with 5356 aluminum filler wire and it didn't work. 5356 is supposed to be the aluminum alloy with the most Mg in it.

I've never tried joking Mg/Al. Doubt it would work.
