The wife is starting to squeal a little about the amount of saws in the garage. So....
McCulloch super 250 PHO. I've heard it run when I first got it about a year ago, and then it sat. Never cut with it, haven't done anything with it since then. It seems to have decent compression (I don't have a tester) and as far as I can tell all parts are accounted for. It will need a muffler. The old one was rotted out so I made a little cover for it so I could run it a while back. I was thinking maybe $50. Pm me for any other questions and I'll respond as quickly as possible. Thanks, Ross.0420160604.jpg0420160604a.jpg0420160605.jpg0420160606.jpg0420160607.jpg

Canya post a pic of the numbers stamped into the bottom of the block? Same for the MN/SN tag (if still present........they're often missing) held down by one of the oil tank cover screws?

That is the correct model # (600100 with a 12 SN frefix) for a Super 250. I asked for the #'s as that's the "wrong" flywheel cover for a black top Super 250. It has the 'side switch' type FW cover (which is more common on 'regular' 250's and other Macs). That's not a red flag however, as the covers are easy to swap, and many have been swapped over the decades. The paint on the cover and other parts of the saw seem to match, so that cover has likely been on that saw for a long time.

I swapped my Super 250 (and my 650 and 550) to that type of cover as I prefer it over the 'correct' top switch setup. The top switch setup has a fragile wire that tethers it to the ignition, while the side switch setup just has a sliding plastic button and a spring steel contact. Much simpler and more robust. I've seen that cover swapped onto a number of models that 'should' have the top switch type cover. Other folks must have shared my preference for that style....

There is one block # that's used on US market Super 250's (that I know of)...................when they have a block #. Several verified Super 250's don't have ANY numbers stamped on the block for some reason.

I knew there was a catch. The Code of Conduct is ......demanding.

Yes it is................and you're low man on the totem pole at the moment. That means you're resoponsible for emptying the ash trays and keeping the bar stocked...:D

It has the correct flywheel cover too.
It's got very little use and starts right up.

Nice Super. You're on provisional status right now. Put a bigger bar on there and we will re evaluate things....:D

A trip out to the PNW is in order at some point.
Yes. I plan a tour. This is year is out. I have issues to resolve. But you need to keep your eyes open for a piece of proper vintage tin that can make it the 2500 miles back.

I'm sure it can handle a much bigger bar. What do you recommend? And what mount is it? Do I need to find a McCullough bar?
It's a shame the paint isn't even gone off this bar.

I'm guessing Dodge. Gimme the specifics.

Just giving you a little *s-word. Comes with club membership. The correct spelling is "McCulloch".

The large frame Mac bars are still around. Not a current mount, but many used and NOS bars are on eBay and elsewhere. 24" and shorter are easy to find. Longer gets more expensive (LOL).

D096/UXL Homelite XL mount (SXLAO, SXL-925, 750, etc) bars can be used IF you also use the correct bar plates AND some bar spacer plates that Mac sold for use with their 'slim line' bars on large frame Macs......and IF the bar has oil passages from the adjuster holes to the chain groove (most Windsor UXL bars do, as do some Oregon D096 bars). A bar that doesn't have those passages can be modified to work with a little effort. PM me for more info.

Here's my S-250 wearing a 32" .404 (95DL) Oregon D096 mount bar along with the correct late style bar plates and the 'slim line' spacer plates. RandyMac at the helm.

Mine came with a black and a yellow clutch cover. Any idea why?

Maybe somebody 'customized' it. I've seen black covers and yellow covers on these saws. Haven't seen a black and yellow cover on one yet....
