Would spray-on 3-In-1 oil do the trick? WD-40? Just looking for something aerosol and fast.

it's hard to beat regular engine oil for lubrication on most anything, applying it by pouring it on then using compressed air from your compressor at ~100psi blast to then blow the oil into the blades then wipe clean with a rag... fast & most economical. The aerosol spray lubes are typically overpriced and don't perform because they are too thin.

I'm happy this didn't turn in to a Best Aerosol Oil thread....
aerosol oils mostly suck. a quart of supertech 0w20 synthetic or any off brand goes a long way for tools, guns, whatever.

I have used WD-40 on my hedge trimmers for years and never killed any plants. However, like someone else mentioned Stihl does make a spray just for hedge trimmers and it works well for cutting the sap.

All you want is something that'll loosen up the gumminess and lubricate. Some tackiness so it stays on a while.

I would've never given hedge clipper lubrication much thought were it not for this thread. I'm gonna try spraying mine with penetrant to break down the sap after I use it and a tackier lubricant before I use it. Maybe bar oil.

Squirt bottle with whatever I use as bar oil, only takes a couple drops along the blade.
It'll spread once the blades start moving.

I've only got maybe 75 feet of hedge and doubt if I run the clippers an hour a year ,Echo .A little squirt of oil seems to work if I think about it .I trim the hedge not make love to it ..

For a lube nothing beats bar and chain oil. To get all the residue off the blades, a solvent type spray like Maxima MPPL works great.
