This is my 2nd top handle saw. First being a 019t I bought back in 2000. Finally crapped out in 2012. It had served it purpose. I had wanted to get another, but every time I had the funds, another saw drew me in another direction as I was after some saws no longer made. I waited for the 540xp but when it hit the market I decided to wait and gather from others experiences. Glad I did. Then I waited some more on getting a 201 bc I knew there would be an Mtronic version eventually. Now that Cad is in remission and Im not after anything, I finally bit the bullet and ordered one thru Randy last week- cheaper than I could buy locally. I believe I will use it more than any other single saw I own. I own several rear handle saws in all the cc classes, so they will get shared use. I'll only have the one top handle and a dozen or so different uses for it.

If I didn't have my 192 I would be looking real hard at the little echo 361p
That brings back memories Corey... Thats similar to what i was describing with "Softwood Line Thinning" and the reason the 242 xp was the saw i chose back in the day. Wish i had had some snow though ! late spring to autumn was when i did it ..Warm.

Besides the 346 and 550 it seems like all the saws around this size have that. This is why the saw I get will end up getting ported. Stock saws suck, ported saw's rock. Lol

Dad didn't realize how handy ours would be before we bought it. I knew I had use(s) for it, but I use it much more frequently than either of us really expected. It can be a bit taxing on the wrist when you haven't used it for awhile and in some ways the rear-handle saw might have been handier, but I'm still pretty happy about the choice in equipment...

They do - but the reputation of the MS201 is far from good. I don't know if they really have fixed the slow trigger response and lackluster performance in general?
I got a few friends who use the new 201 mtronic daily, and according them Stihl has improved throttle respons alot compared to the carb 201 version.

Randy just did a muffler mod on mine before I picked it up. I asked about the timing advance and he said "the newest ones don't seem to need it like the earlier ones". I haven't got to cut with it yet, but I noticed that throttle response is instantaneous and it seems snappy as hell.

Good thing Stihl addressed the problems with the 201. Many people where less the happy with it. There are more and more good options it doesn't take long for a guy to pick up a saw that works how he wants it to.

When it comes to top handle saws the real options are limited.

I haven't even done anything to my 201T CM and have been happy with it. My other one has an adjustable carb and has the timing advanced and muffler opened up.

Iam sure it will come in for a lot of criticism but if it's 40cc+ then Dolmar will be on the roulette table again and the roulette table has two colours red and black

It's about time they updated the PS-3410 but they are still selling over here mostly in rear handle form for wood carving
