My logging buddy Wayne took this oak down in 2014.

They borrowed my saw as I had the Stihl ES light 28 inch bar at the time when the 28 lightweight was coming out. The biggest bar they had at the time was 24.

I was the first to purchase the 28 ES light from the local Stihl dealer back in 2014.

Now my buddies all have Stihl 28 ES light.

In 2015, I bought my first Stihl 36 inch bar. I love this bar as it cuts nice and straight.
The Stihl lightweight bars are one of my favorites

Wow, Didn't think .013 of drive link thickness would make such a huge difference. That's really not much metal. That's 3 sheets of printer paper.

I've got a little project coming up just to see if I can do it .It's for saw fest which allows up to 54 cc's in that class which is exactly what a 10-10 McCulloch is .It has to run .325 chain in that class .I think I have a couple of open roller short bars that go on a Remington PL-4 that are .058 gauge .Might work ,might not .Fact I had no idea it was even made in that size because I've only seen it in .050 and .063 .I've only got two or three saws in that whole mess that use .325 chain .

Cool picture

A truck driver pulled into the Tim Hortons and saw the big log on the roll off.

He asked to take pictures including of us two standing by the truck. He said he’s a photographer which I agree turned out to be great pictures.

My boss finished the delivery today. He said people stopped him at some intersections and asked if the log was for sale.

I Can’t believe a log can attract so much attention. .

Every bar I have over 32 is .063 in 3/8 and .404 I've not seen anything over 32 available with .050 but I lucked out and got several light weight 32 Stihl mount bars in .050 they are getting harder to find but I have 200ft of saw chain that .050 so really like that I got them. Good luck finding longer bars at anything less than .063

I used to run all .404 then better 3/8 cutters came out not better than .404 but a game changer for 3/8 but then they went small again. .404 is the best imo I just can't afford to switch my fleet over not yet anyway. I guess it depends what else u have and if u have rolls of 3/8 already. .404 out performs everything and way more durable. It's more expensive but u get what u pay for. I'd probably lean .404 but if u go 3/8 u will still do ok

Personally I prefer .036 3/8 square ground on long bar. And if the .404 skip is round file chisel it seems to cut with more vibration compared to 3/8.
.404 square ground Is smooth, 3/8 square is super smooth. It takes less power to run the 3/8 as well, imho. The .404 is less forgiving
I have tested 50” bar 9p 3/8 and 8p .404
Have played with .404 round chisel on 36-42” and it’s ruff and bouncy and doesn’t feel as fast as 3/8
And that is all softwood cutting.
It’s also a lot harder to get good .404 square chisel
