Leaking Bar Oil

Very easy as I am sure you know. Sometimes the cap has a hairline crack, usually caused by tightening with a screwdriver. It's practically invisible to the naked eye, but the oil gets through.Seriously, but OK!
How difficult can it be to replace a leaking cap O-ring or complete cap anyways?

i was just being funny. i havent ever had a leaking cap for bar oil. in 40 years of small hand held power equipment only two leaking gas caps. severl fuel lines and tank gromets thoughSeriously, but OK!

A last attempt. Drained the oil, solvent, blew it out, more solvent, blew it out. Now I'll let it sit, till I run the saw again. Maybe the leak will fix itself. Hopefully....

OMG! The oil leak is fixed. It fixed itself. 
Couple of months ago I had to make a few cuts and noticed the saw's bottom was dry. Checked the oil, and about 1/2 full, and made my cuts. Deciding to test the leak I filled the oil to the top and left it alone. That was 2+ months ago. Today, still dry, not a trace of oil.
What happened???

I find a lot of it depends on how the saw is stored. Constant temperature changes pump the oil out since the tank vent let's air in but not out. Maybe you just got lucky? I hope it lasts!

I hope so. It really is a nice saw. As I get older the light weight makes me like it more and more. The 500i is getting a bit heavy for me and the 400 is still nice but the 261 is the lightest and my favorite (with the leak fixed).

I have two saws that refuse to leak when sitting still. Then when I take them for a ride in my pickup truck bed, they leave behind an oil drip stain in the bed. It doesn't take much vibration to set it off. I live with it.

Always been an old stiff oil line on all my Stihls causing the leaks. Never have figured out why the one Husky leaks.

This is my 6th saw and the only one that ever leaked. The ONLY possible explanation is that during the winter 23/24 I hung it from the handle with a new hanger/hook I bought off a guy on Ebay. I only hung the one as a test, for I was concerned that maybe the hook would fail, and the saw would fall. Never expected it to leak afterwards. Needless to say, I've never hung a saw by its handle again.
