Hi! I'm Matt. This is my first post here.

I have a 2023 Hudqvarna K970. Bought it not running. Previous owner said she swares it ran a week prior. Tested compression and got around 80-90psi. Pulled the head and found very scored. Checked gas, I'm 99% sure it was run without oil. Being only a year old and it doesnt look as if it has a ton of hours on it does the piston appear it was run without oil? Im and idiot and dumpped the gas to switch to rec gas before really looking at it. Everything else looks/ feels good. Just wondering if i should look at anything else before i put the dukes cylinder and piston I bought in and put it back together.

Thanks for any help! 20240826_205603.jpg

It looks like it could be a straight gas seize, what does the cylinder look like?

Morning! Thanks for the reply. It doesn't look terrible, but definitely has some scoring in a few spots. It doesnt look as bad as the piston. I was having a hard tike getting then to ahow up in a picture. I can try again when I get back. I just figured if I was doing it I woukd replace the cylinder and piston together.

Either way, concrete saws live a hard life so at this point, you're probably just as well off to replace the top end.

I'd save the old cylinder - It's likely that you can clean it up for future use. If the unit is as low-use as you indicate, then
it's likely the seals are still good. I'd go ahead and pressure/vac test the short block once you get it back together.

Looks awful dry down in the crankcase, the big end bearing looks like it's had some heat on it
( kinda blue looking)
Check for play in all the internal bearings and while holding the rod turn it over and feel forcany roughness if any is felt replace all bearings and Seals.
Once it is reassembled pressure vacuum test it to 10psi both sides while rocking crank back and forth.
