Limit the draw to 150 tickets at $5 each (or higher if the saw plus shipping is valued at more than $750). When the 150th ticket is sold the draw closes and the winner is drawn at random. Proceeds to John's family.

I'm sure 150 tickets could be sold among the members here. Better odds of winning than the lottery.
