can you convert any type of chain? I have some new safety chain that came with my big saw. it's 3/8 .063 i'll post a picture tonight once i get home.To the op
If you mail me a chain ,i will convert it to square for you with my grinder ,needs to be full size 3/8 though ,then you can study the angles and try to duplicate them ,will be easier to touch up a chain that is square already .
pm me if want to do this .
Post an image and we can tell you ,it really helps to have a square piece in front of you when learning ,holding the file right takes some time to master ,once i figured out the widest part of the file was for the top plate it came easier .,it has to have a pointy outer corner to make square like was said .can you convert any type of chain? non of the dealers etc. around me even know what square chisel chain is. I always end up ordering my files from Kevlargaffs on eBay.They are friggen expensive! With Exchange rate, duty and shipping the last time I got 2 double devel files I believe they cost me almost $50CDN.
I asked a couple different dealers if they could order me files for doing square and they both said no.
I really have to check out some more local places
Very true. I only really use square chain for play. I usually run round chain for work. 2 square files last me quite awhile just so long as I take care of them and don't lose them. You could pay for a grinder quick at those prices.
