Sorry pics are not very good. Its a cylinder that was in the box of auction stuff. The intake sidemis pretty good. Exhaust side has some scuffing that you can feel but not real deep.

Will have anither 066 cylinder im gonna pull off saw that has a scored piston. Will post a pic of it here tomorrow when i get it apart.

Also if that will clean up how do ya go about it engine hone? Steel wool?

Thanks

That looks like a newer 066 or MS-660 cylinder. It should clean up fine - does it have grooves in the plating on the exhaust side that you can catch with a fingernail?
I just rubbed finger on them and could feel them. Will try that tomorrow.

Heres the piston and cylinder on that 066. Neither of the cylinders have deep enough scratches to catch a finger nail. Pics make it look way worse. Piston scuffs cant catch finger nail either but its probly no good. So hopfully just piston and rings if i can clean up the cylinder. Hope all the other.parts are ther for the saw. Havnt seen the carb yet and fikter and cover. If not ther may have to go aftermarket on ebay.

Any idea as to what carb belongs on this saw. I do have a few layin around.

I actually have a 372xp with a cleaned up jug but with a few deep grooves. It blows 140ish psi with gasket and run ok.

It looks like that cylinder will clean up fine as well. For carburetors, I can recommend the WJ-35 or WJ-69, if you have one of those.

Same here - I built a 359 a couple years ago and the cylinder has some fine grooves on the exhaust side - I built it as a beater saw - it does a great job.

So for piston and rings should i go for oem or aftermarket? I like the thoughts of oem but trying to keep cost down a bit. This saw wont be used too often.

When I cleaned up my first one I was nervous and really didn't expect it to be salvageable. I found a pick with a sharp/pointy 90 degree tip was an easy way to feel if the scratch was a groove or a ridge of aluminum transfer. It is surprising how tough the Nikisil is and how tenacious the transfer can stick to it
