Intersting coil and case in a 064

Picked up a 064 at a flea market today.Thought the coil was odd. Cool though,never seen one. Bummed about the KS jug though.

That's the early 0000 400 1300 coil that came with the outboard trigger module. Those came on 038s a lot as well. They were used on the earliest 064s.

You can tell it's an early version by the air filter and cheese grater muffler cover.

Looks to have had some machine work done to the case. You can see the insert is flush on top,but will hang a nail at the bottom.On the outside,that's like a shim.The saw had a smoked lower rod bearing.Not sure I want to use the case.The insert spins.

Great question— hard use? Predominantly pro use? Alloy problems?

I know I’ve seen and heard of more 064 case cracks than any other Stihl. Usually flywheel side.

JacobJ may have more info.

Green Loctite might work.

You can buy new oem case from stihl that has the two hole pin bosses close together and put the updated 1203 flywheel and the standard unlimited coil and transfer everything over the case is about 200 the flywheel is 125 unless you find used

see the case on the right were the coil goes this is the correct case for updated ignition flywheel and coil non limited version your standard stihl coil.
