I just noticed something on these Husqvarna 61’s and others in the family. Where do they get their fresh intake air from??? Looking at how the carb box and top cover fits, I don’t see anywhere for fresh air to come in.

Carb box area below.

Below is the cover that fits on top of the carb box.

The only spot I could think of was the area that the intake block runs through, but it’s sealed pretty tight. See below with the block mounted

And finally, the early saws had a small hole in the top cover. As you can see on the later saws this hole is solid. See below.

Here is the earlier type cover with hole.

Most saws have a clear area that lets fresh air in. I just wonder why and how these don’t???

Some saws throw air from the flywheel up into the carb box. In your third picture the flywheel side on the right would be where air comes in.

That one does look pretty closed off though, so I'm not sure on that particular saw.

Thanks guys for the replies.

@Shibby - yes some do, none of the 61’s do that I am aware of.

@Michael Rupley - both of these serial numbers are 1988 saws and they use the grey top covers. Plus the top covers have the 88 marking making them 1988.

I have to wonder if these saws would run better with some inlets put in.
