Whatever You say Bill!
You know it all, who am I to waste time arguing about anything with You.

Cheers
No I do not know it all........... nor am I arguing in the slightest.
What I do know for a fact is that if anyone here shot a buck the size you posted above they would be escorted off my land and barred for life.

How do I know such..........
I know it because the picture I posted is of a young buck that was harvested here on Friday, November 17, 2017. That was opening day of our shotgun deer season. I remember the day very well. I went to work that day and my three sons hunted. When my wife and I got home from work around 4PM all three sons were standing by the gate waiting on us. I knew something major was wrong as they should still be hunting. When I got out of the truck the oldest said "Dad we have a big problem"......the youngest let a line of expletives and the middle son just shook his head. There was a guy hunting here by the name of Dale K that I kicked off around 1987. He came back around 2016 asking to hunt again and I reluctantly allowed it. In Illinois we are only allowed one buck with a shotgun or muzzle loader. Well opening morning Dale K shot the young buck pictured. He then shot a larger buck a few hours later. Of course now he has two bucks on the ground and only one tag. He pressured my sons to tag the smaller one and they told him to pound salt. Dale K knew he was in trouble and loaded the larger buck in his truck and left the smaller one to rot. At this point there is a dressed young buck here without a tag. My sons were not going to waste their tags on it. I do not believe in taking the life of an animal for no reason so I was left in a real pickle. In the end my wife put her buck tag on it. Yes she did not harvest it but at least it was tagged and accounted for. I still have the skull pictured as a reminder to how much of a POS people can be and are.

Growing up with a serial deer murderer for a father, my impression is the biggest bucks are usually 3-4 years old. After that their teeth get worse and they can’t keep as much weight.

That said, the biggest one I remember was also the oldest at 7 years. He was well over 200lbs, though only a mid sized 8 point rack. Dad chased that deer 4 or 5 years before he got him. He’s told me the whole saga at least 20 times…and I was there.

I'm curious, why did you decide not to report him to the authorities? The pressuring of your children would make me very uneasy, especially with firearms involved.

I don't have land to hunt on, but one day will. I want to know what to do if I were to allow a hunter. I would lean towards reporting the person, unless it was somehow a mistake of some kind. I have heard of legitimate dual buck takedowns with a single shot. But these are with 30-06 and more powerful, not a shotgun.

Well there are a lot of factors to consider. Yes he did harvest it but with the law you have to have irrefutable evidence. I did not see him harvest the deer nor did my sons. He could easily claim he witnessed one of my sons shoot it and have his buddy back him up. There is a whole lot more backstory that goes back to the early 1980's

That is a rough situation. Thanks for the insight.
