I had an Amazon gift card so I bought a granberg small log mill. My neighbor has logs all over his yard so I decided to give a 10’ red oak log a go.
I went for 6/4 boards. The closer I milled to the center the cooler the heart wood. I only wish I had taken the time to get more pics. I later went back and through some ratchet straps around the logs. The log was at least a year old. I’ll let it dry out for a bit and come back with a moisture meter. The wife has already called dibs on the wood and wants a new coffee table.
I gotta say, there is something about finishing the cut and flipping over a board to see what’s inside. That night I was thinking about 395s and 660s. As soon and I have the opportunity to slab a large log, I’m going to shop for a bigger saw. I’m hooked.
