Got my 550XP back from my dealer at the end of the day. Service manager said they did the updates and they really made the saw work in the wood this time.
I never had time to try it out but I trust they got it right this time.

Thanks Spike60 !!

Glad to help Willard. Your saw is right in that date range. The 10 I did yesterday were all made in week 32; one week after yours.

This evening I made a few cuts with the 550XP since the dealerships tech reset the fuel settings.
What a difference, runs like a charm now right from cold. No more bog with a familiar smooth quick throttle response.
Thanks again to Spike60!

I'm pretty sure a standard 3/8 will be the fastest setup on a good break in 261.

I don't own one, but it's faster on a stock 346, and I told one of my coworker to change his .325 /"16 for a 3/8 /"16. He won't go back, and I tried his saw, bone stock and it's a great runner with the whole bar (3/8) buried in seasoned mountain beech.

It's nice to run full size 3/8 on all saws to simplify outfitting the herd. More sharpening life, takes more abuse.
Seems more aggressive then a .325 but stick a brand new one of those chains on a stock 346XP in a good size chunk of wood ...terrible drain of power.
They cut great when filed half ways down, but who wants to wait.
Stick a new narrow kerf semi chisel .325 H25 or 95VPX on the 346 snd you'd be lying if you weren't impressed how aggressive and quick it cuts plus how long this semi chisel stays sharp.

Did some exploring on the new edition Stihl MS261CM.
Very nice air injection design.

Agree totally. Run 3/8 with 16'' bar on my Jonsered 2152 and on my 261 before I sold it. Also run a 16 or 18'' on my Dolmar 5105. All cut better and faster than .325 that I have tested. I do keep .325 on my fencerow and brush saw because it takes less kerf and seems to hang up and stick less on twigs etc.

You boys will have to come and cut my 10×10" dry spruce with your stock 50cc saws. I'll give you a 23RS .325 and a 72LPX.
Both chains brand new new with a light touch up with a 3/16" and 7/32" round file.
3 cuts on a stop watch.

Please don't take this the wrong way but no one that commented using 3/8 uses "stock 50cc saws"... I wish you were closer I'd let you try my 261...

3/8 might be faster but did anyone mention how grabby 3/8 chain is compared to. 325? It's definitely something to consider. This is why my limbing saws (ms241, ps421, 543xp, 550xp,346xp) have .325 or 3/8lp

This:

I've gone to 81 dl .325" on my baby saws.

14" 3/8" Picco on my MS200Ts

20" .325" on my 026s

I plan to run 25" 3/8" on my Ported 361: we'll see.

Where do you find a 6T ?..stihl doesnt even offer the 8T in mini spline anymore.
I know I have self diagnosed ADD, but I love you avatar pic, if that's is what it is called...I am watching a espn 30 for 30 on lakers and Celtics in the 80s...Larry bird is a flat out bad ass, there ain't no game players like that now....I haven't watched a pro basketball game since the pacers with Reggie miller were playing....pro basketball is freaking ultimate wrestling now, period....sorry for derail!!!!
