Husqvarna 55 open vs closed port cylinder

How do I identify an open vs closed port cylinder on a 55 without disassembly?

take the top cover off and if its a closed port it will have noticeable transfer port bulges with +++++ stamped on one the bulge on one side.

Most of the time when it has a decomp it is a closed port. I saw a couple later rancher 46 mm open ports that had it. Many after market jugs also have the decomp.
If it’s original and you look at the sticker under the handle bar. It will say husky 55 with 51cc displacement. That’s another clue. Although they made some 51 cc open port jugs too but I’ve never seen a 51cc open port with decomp

Mine is definitely closed port. Pulls damn strong.

that was more common. the decomp-closed port cylinder combo was only sent out for a year or so. i would wager there are waaaaay more decomp 46 mm cylinders out there than 45 mm decomp cylinders

they are. not gonna win races but they will cut firewood forever w very little inputs.

Well they sure are light! Or at least lighter than what I'm used to. I've been lacking in some small saws to use and Husqvarna seems to have a wider variety of them out there.

I run a 55 open port over a 346. I think they’re a tik more rugged. Actually have one that has a good amount of run on it. Had it since new in 03-04 ish. Been a good one. Built like the 2 series
