Thought what the heck caused this to happen. Drained the fuel and found this...

At that point I take the saw back and show the guys at the shop. Tom says put it back together and I'll take it to camp and run it till it dies. I suggested he not do that! So he asks what will it take? I have him order a Meteor from @definativedave on eBay! Tell him a carb kit, fuel line and filter should do it. Got the piston in and top end back together. Ran the carb through the USC and it's back together. Cleaned up the rest of the saw today.

Here is how it is now waiting for fuel line and filter! Notice the Gorilla tape on the intake and exhaust! I have used it a lot to block off for cleaning and pressure/vac tests!

Strange, is the mating surface of the exhaust port flat or is it warped maybe?
Everything looks normal and the exhaust bolts were tight. The burn on the brake flag is right where the defector is.

Wonder if this one had the famous impulse horn leak at the grommet? If you don't replace the grommet consider pulling it out, turn it around, and put it back in so the horn mates on the side that isn't worn when you reassemble. Or consider getting a new grommet for assembly -- small investment to help save from that common issue. Pretty sure that's what toasted the one I rebuilt for my buddy.

Saw looks nice. These do great w/ a muffler mod fairly simple baffles can be cut out w/ a cutting wheel took very little time. May help her run cooler too :)

Cheers.

Yup. That one looks decent. No dirt spots from sucking air. The one I had looked like a spot where air was getting in may have been there. Super cheap to replace if you can get one before you put her together. Cheers.

Did a vac test when I took that pic and it didn't drop any over a couple minutes.

Couldn't sleep tonight so I got more done on the saw. Did a pressure test and it held 8lbs forever! Got the carb and whatever all those plates are called on. I'm going to remove the baffle in the muffler and see how big the holes in the exhaust port are and maybe open them up. Waiting on the fuel line and filter and then for some testing. Should be done in a couple days.

Here's a 50 my buddy owns and we had @mdavlee put a piston in it. White top edition.

Just needed a good tuning Mike. It wouldnt idle and was lean as we are much lower elevation. Started way rich and got the H rough and L finally so it would idle and now it's at about 12100 rich for break in. Response isnt too bad may need more tweaks it got dark after playing. Needs a few tanks and she should be good. This is the one I thought the carb may have needed work but it is holding tune well and idling and cutting decent. Just needs to be run I think!

Ok I got the baffle out of the muffler. Holes look plenty big enough. Why does Husky make the deflectors with the finger things on them?

Do you guys think that without the spark screen that exhaust is leaking out the seam where the solid part of the screen would cover? Kinda lines up with the burned areas.
