Have a 1994 Husqvarna 394 that lost spark. Changed plug, no spark. Cleaned ground, no spark. Changed coil and wire, no spark. Cleaned flywheel, no spark. Changed switch, no spark. Disconnected switch, no spark. Open to all suggestions and thanks in advance.

I've had a couple saws where I had to go through a couple coils before I found one that worked....very frustrating.

whats the resistance between the shutoff/short connector on the coil and the metal ground on the coil?

if its a dead short, or close to it, coil is NG

the shutoff switch essentially shorts this to ground to kill the saw, ie, kill the spark

.29 ohms is a dead short for all intents and purposes...

150 ohms would be better

Shop around OEM coils are high, Hutzl coil worked okay but fit isn't as good as as OEM. Only 394 and 395 use that coil.

Sounds like it needs another coil

394 and 395 eat coils like candy.
I've changed mine many times on both saws.

Thanks for the help. Bought a new oem and seems to be bad, will try to return.

I'll take my meter with me and test the next new one before leaving. Thanks for your advise.

Matt, have you ever meter tested the Hutzl coil? Just wondering if there's a difference compared to an OEM unit. I had lots of problems keeping an OEM coil going and switched to $6.99 Hutzl coils. The only difference I can tell is that the Hutzl is 100% reliable for almost 2 years now.

the short answer is no, haven't tested a hutzl coil. but it can't be a dead short.... because thats what the off/on switch intends to create to shut down the saw.... a dead short.

I'll measure the Hutzl and let you you guys know. I rebuilt a 394 and now spark , ordered a Hutzl and started right up but would not run above 11.k rpm, thought I got a lemon, and bought an OEM, same thing. rebuilt carburetor and fixed rpm problem.

Hutzl coil reads 2.5 ohms between the kill switch lead and the chassis
