Hi, folks,

I’m new here and only joined about a week ago. I didn’t expect to post much, but I have a question and would appreciate all of your insight :)

I have eyes on a pretty clean bone stock Dolmar 7300. I’ve never run one, nor know of anybody who has. However, I have and have run the following saws, and would like to know how the Dolmar 7300 compares, mainly with respect to speed and torque:

-bone stock Husqvarna 372 XPW (75cc)
-mildly ported Husqvarna 372 XPW (75cc), ported with an emphasis on torque as opposed to chain speed
-Master Mind 372XP

Additionally, are they reliable?

Side note, I also have eyes on a pretty clean bone stock Jonsered 820 as well from a different seller. I understand that’s a different cc class, but any info on that would be appreciated as well.

I’m a big firewood cutter in the hardwoods of Pennsylvania, and I love torquey saws with generally broader powerbands as opposed to peaky powerbands in the high-RPM range. All of the above saws wear 24” bars, and my intention for the Dolmar and/or Jonsered would also be 24”.

Thank you all so much for your time and information!

-Ray

looks like the 820 is similar to the Husky 281

Nothing bad with Dolmar but parts availability. If you are looking new i would sure look at the 572.
Yeah, the parts issue is sadly going to get us all one day with these older saws 😕 but I’ve been doing more research and it seems that Dolmar/Makita are further down that road than the other big names, so that’s definitely something to consider. It’s also why I’m trying to gradually build my lineup to be representative of which saws I love running but also which ones I use the most, so that I can rotate them and reduce the overall hours on any one saw. In theory, that should help me to alleviate some of the parts availability issues. Maybe. Hopefully. Haha

I’ve never had an opportunity to run any 5-series yet, but from what I understand, the 572 is kind of peaky with its powerband, right? Makes its power at the high RPMs with relatively less bottom-end power than its predecessors?

Ok, that’s definitely good to know. And I imagine the 7300 ported would be a little bit better than the ported 372, right?
I have a Dolmar 7310 that Kevin @huskihl ported. It’s my go to saw for firewood, and runs absolutely great. It’ll run a 24” bar with .404 chain without a problem.
Kevin is a great guy, and can really make the Dolmars run. He’s on a very short list of porters I trust 100%.
Whether it will run better than a ported 372 I can’t comment on, as it’s been so long since I’ve ran a 372 back to back with a 7300. Kevin will know.

No I don’t believe that to be true. The 572 is the one saw in the 5 series that has a relatively wide power band and does well being dogged in. 550, 562 and 592 are all a little bit higher strung and peaky

I was not impressed by stock 372's, however ported, they are probably my favorite larger saw. I have had a stock 7900, and it was impressive for a stock saw. I have a Masterminded 372 xpw that is incredible, It's the saw I generally grab besides my Echo 2511t.
