I’m assuming you want to port it yourself.

105.5/120/78. Widen the exhaust.

Only model where I prefer the meteor piston over OEM, it’s actually a gram lighter. Use oem pin.

30 from band. Lose the BG. Set squish at 18.

Lower the intake floor and keep the factory width.

Advance the timing 1/2 the key. If you don’t have a decomp, you may have to dial that back. I had a real biter once, had to dial it back.

Open the area under the stock muffler deflector. Trim or fold the teeth and pry it open to a hemisphere. If you don’t have the removable deflector type, cut the oem w tin snips and fold back/braze when done.

You’ll need an 87 carb or 199 conversion. Will run well with a 120/144, but not as well-I can personally attest to this.

Found a few donor saws. Hope to get to the saws in the next few weeks. Of these 2 saws, one is decomp/120 carbed and one is ND with an 87.

I actually prefer the decomp jugs and the 120 carbed version.

The 120 carb is too small for a ported 262, but it’s fine for a stocker. The plan is to convert a new OEM 199 to 87 specs using the current 120 as the donor carb.

The converted 198/9 carbs actually have the same Venturi as the 87 and are easier to tune. They provide the same WOT power with better low and mid-range than the coveted 87 does. More work though.

Since I received a 262 cylinder and carb in the fundraiser a little while back I decided to pull this 262 project out of the moth balls.

Sorry, no tear down pictures. There wasn't much to see but the pound of grease and sawdust it left on my bench.

So we'll start here with the clean case and new nachi open bearings.



Wipe the rust preventative off the bearings or they'll stick on you. Since this saw has a blind bearing pocket on the PTO side and a through hole on the flywheel side we'll start on the PTO side.

New here. Following with interest. Pictured (dirty as purchased two weeks ago) is my first ever Husqvarna chainsaw! Presently out for porting.
