I had a 261 that did that too. Clutch spring seemed tight, but the shoe had a little side to side wobble, carrier was a little worn, probably enough to let the shoe touch the drum while at idle. Got another clutch and it was better. Check your carrier for wear, might be the problem. It doesn't take much.

Id replace the spring anyway. A few bucks well spent, and if it doesnt fix it then you still have a fresh one if u decide to replace the clutch.

I have seen many high hour saws that do that, something is tapping/touching the clutch drum to make that sound. Check the items mentioned above, especially the carrier but a new clutch would likely cure the problem.

I've heard a few saws do this that there was nothing wrong with. Try idling it down just a bit.

No, mine ran fine when you throttled it up. It just sounded like something was wrong with the saw when it really wasn't, thats all.

That is a specific sound, the drum acts like a bell when hit, so at least you know exactly where the sound is coming from. Needle bearing or drum has too much play in it I'd think
